The GVK Group-run Kempegowda International Airport on Tuesday said it has clocked a passenger traffic of 15 million so far this fiscal, making it the country’s third busiest airport after New Delhi and Mumbai. Passenger traffic at the airport grew 19.3% during FY15 while air traffic movements rose 13.2%.
The milestone also marks the airport’s entry into the mid-sized airport category in seven years of operations, according to a press release from Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL).
“With this exponential growth we have consolidated our position as India’s third largest airport and South India’s busiest airport with highest passenger traffic. Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru will most likely end the fiscal year with 15.24 million passengers,” said GV Sanjay Reddy, MD, BIAL.
The airport also witnessed a 15.9% growth in cargo during the fiscal, the release said.
