Ridley, the world renowned bicycle brand for performance and premium, has on Friday announced its entry into the Indian market. The Belgium-based company has entered into a collaboration with India’s leading bicycle maker TI Cycles of Murugappa group to market its range of products – both that of India specific and global performance bicycles in Indian market. Ridley will take on existing global brands such as Trek (Hero), Giant (Starken) and Scott in India.
As part of this agreement with TI Cycles, Ridley will make bicycles specific to Indian market with a price tag ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 80,000 at one of its plant in Belgium and also introduce its own premium and performance bicycles starting with a price range of R63,000 to R7.8 lakh. Both the ranges will be imported from Ridley’s factories in Belgium. The premium/performance bicycles market in India is pegged at 60,000 units per annum.
Ridley will initially make and introduce 11 bicycles specific to India needs and 14 of its own premium bicycles. Ti Cycles, an established player in the Indian bicycles market for decades with its brands such as Hercules, BSA, will sell all the products under its 50-odd premium Track & Trail Sports stores apart from selling through CICLO Cafe retail outlets.
