An economics professor of the United States University has been appointed as the Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India.
An economics professor of New York University has been appointed as the Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India. Prof Viral V Acharya has become one of the central bank’s four deputy governors for a term of three years. The post was vacant after elevation of Urjit Patel as the Governor of RBI in early September, this year.
The applications were invited from prospective candidates to fill the post by putting out an advertisement on September 29. RBI received nearly 90 application of people belonging to diverse backgrounds till October 21, which was the last date for sending applications. Earlier, RBI had three deputy governors including N S Vishwanathan, S S Mundra and R Gandhi.
It may be mentioned here that to apply for the post of RBI Dy Governor, a person should be below 60 years of age. He should have at least 25 years of experience in public administration, including secretary level posting in Government of India or in Indian or international public financial institutions.
