Most Indians prefer to invest in instruments like insurance and fixed deposits to build a retirement corpus. About 60% use savings accounts to prepare for retirement that constraints their ability to earn higher returns. An Aegon Retirement Readiness Survey found that products with easy-to-use access to tracking and management of savings would encourage 40% of Indians to save for retirement. While 78% believe NPS is safe or safer than FDs, only 42% use NPS to save for retirement compared with 62% who use FDs. This is despite the fact that NPS has given double-digit returns.
