The RBI has proposed setting up a training and certification course for business correspondents (BC) in India, both new and existing ones, governor Raghuram Rajan said on Tuesday.

The idea is to create a system which enables a BC with a good track record or advanced training to move on to handling more complex financial products and services that go beyond deposits and remittances.

“RBI will issue the necessary framework for establishing a certification programme by end-June 2016. Based on the framework, the Indian Banks’ Association will be requested to put in place a system of training and certification of BCs,” Rajan said.
