Buoyed with the success of the Renault Kwid in the Indian market, the French carmaker today showcased two new derivatives of the small car – the Kwid 1000cc and Kwid Easy-R AMT – at the Auto Expo 2016. While the 1000cc will be positioned above the current lineup, the automated manual transmission (AMT) will be offered with multiple variants.
The Renault Kwid 1000cc is a global model for Renault, and will be launched in several markets. The 1000cc Kwid version gets lot more safety features such as dual airbags and anti-lock braking system. On the current model, only driver-side airbag is offered and that too as an option on the top-of-the-line variant.
The Renault Kwid Easy-R AMT, on the other hand, comes with the 800cc model, and thus will be offered on a couple of variants. With AMT, the Kwid will become quite convenient to drive around city roads. Since only mechanical updates have been made to the car, no cosmetic changes made to the car. It looks exactly similar to the Kwid 800 version.
While with the Renault Kwid 1000cc, the company will target buyers looking for a slightly more powerful budget hatchback the Kwid AMT is for people looking for a an easy-to-drive city commuter. The Kwid 1000cc will take head on against the Maruti Alto K10.
Besides the 1.0L & AMT variants, the company also showcased two new concepts based on the Kwid – Climber and Racer. Though we don’t see them getting into production anytime soon.
