A teaser image of the new Toyota Innova 2016 has been released ahead of its global debut at the upcoming edition of the Delhi Auto Expo. First introduced in 2005, the new Innova will enter its second generation in the country after its debut at the Motor Show.
The new Toyota Innova is built on an all-new platform – Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) – that is claimed to be stiffer and lighter than the existing model’s platform. The same platform will also underpin the new-generation Toyota Fortuner.
Since the vehicle is already on sale in Indonesia, we know the changes it will receive. The new-generation Toyota Innova takes some of its design cues from other Toyota cars like the Camry and Altis. With a massive hexagonal grille with two slats in chrome, all-new fog lights, projector head-lamps with LED daytime running lights and a new bumper, the vehicle’s front fascia looks completely new. The vehicle’s rear profile also looks completely new with boomerang shaped tail-lights and an all new bumper. The side profile looks refreshing with new wheel arches, wheels and new side panels, its shape remains more or less similar to the current-gen Innova.
Measuring 4735mm in length, 1795mm in height, 1830mm in width and 2750mm wheelbase, the new Toyota Innova 2016 is bigger and more spacious than the current-gen version. Unlike the Indonesian model, that is available in both petrol and diesel engine options, the India-bound model will ony get a diesel version. The engine will be an all-new 2.4-litre diesel unit that, mated to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic, will churn out 147bhp and 360Nm.
Just like the current model, the Toyota Innova 2016 will also feature captain seats in the second row and a flat third row. The new Innova will also have more features than the current model, as the company is planning to project it as a more up-market product.
