After making its India debut at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, the luxury armoured saloon Mercedes Maybach S600 Guard was finally launched on Tuesday at a starting price of Rs 10.5 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi). Interstingly, the Maybach S600 Guard has been launched in India within 15 days of its global debut. The Maybach S600 Guard is certified for the highest ballistics protection class right now, called VR9 and thus claimed to be the 'safest car on the planet'. With the highest level of comfort, AIRMATIC suspension, unrestricted day-to-day suitability, V12 twin-turbo engine and intelligent driver assistance system, the company's flagship Guard model is one of the finest special protection vehicles available in the world today. The Maybach S600 Guard's specifically reinforced base structure, integrated into the bodyshell production stage, offers it an outstanding strength and stability. "At the bodyshell stage, protective components of special steel are integrated into the cavities between the body structure and the outer skin. Special aramide and PE components provide additional splinter protection. Intelligent overlapping systems at particularly critical points ensure comprehensive ballistic protection.", says the company. The Maybach S600 Guard's glass area is coated with polycarbonate on the inside for splinter protection. All the highest grade material and components used for the Guard not only provide ballistic protection but also allow it to stand a blast of almost 15kgs of TNT from around 4 metres away. "The occupants are effectively protected by the armouring if a splintering explosive charge is fired at close range on either side.", says the company. With a host of protection systems, the Mercedes Maybach S600 Guard is the first vehicle to have been comprehensively certified for highest ballistic protection in resistance class VR9. Powering the Maybach S600 Guard is a 6.0-litre V12 twin-turbo petrol engine that develops a whopping 530hp and 800Nm.
