The Hero Xtreme 200 S is a naked sportbike powered by an all-new 200cc, single-cylinder engine.
Hero Motorcorp, the country’s larget two-wheeler maker, unveiled 4 new vehicles on the first day of the Auto Expo 2016. Similar to the earlier editions of Expo, the company has displayed some futuristic concepts and some production/closer-to-production models besides its existing lineup. Out of all the Hero bikes being displayed at the biennial event, Hero Xtreme 200 S is the most exciting product that showcases the company’s renewed focus on premium segment.
The Hero Xtreme 200 S is a naked sportbike powered by an all-new 200cc, single-cylinder engine. Built on the strong diamond type chassis, this entry-level naked sportbike from Hero will fall in the fast growing 200-250cc segment and will lock horns with the KTM Duke 200, TVS Apache RTR 200, Bajaj Pulsar NS200, etc. The engine, powering the Hero Xtreme 200 S, is capable of developing a maximum power output of 18.5bhp at 8500rpm and a peak torque of 17.2Nm at 6000rpm. With these power figures, the Xtreme 200 S is as powerful as most of its rivals. This engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
The company says that the design of the Hero Xtreme 200 S is focused on providing a “strong and powerful riding experience”. The new 200cc Hero motorcycle features air vents in front cowl, tank-shroud and belly-pan that enhance cooling and improve the power of the engine. The company further says that “the effort has been made to focus the weight in front while adding a vertical flow towards the rear to crate a harmonious synergy between body and mechanical elements.” Other interesting elements are LED lights, front & rear disc brakes and rear monoshock suspension.
Other soon-to-be-launched Hero bike unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016 is the Hero Splendor iSmart 110. The Splendor iSmart 110 is the first new motorcycle developed completely in-house. Unlike the existing Hero Splendor iSmart 3G, this one features a new 110cc, single-cylinder, TOD (torque-on-demand) engine which too has been developed by Hero’s in-house engineering team.
Besides these two mass-segment motorcycles, Hero MotoCorp also revealed the XF3R street fighter design concept that will become basis for future Hero products. Also on display is a Hero Duet electric scooter.
