In order to possibly offset the impact of Maruti’s just launched compact SUV Vitara Brezza, Ford India on Friday announced a sharp price cut, in its popular compact SUV EcoSport, of up to Rs 1.12 lakh in its diesel variant and up to Rs 87,000 in its petrol variant.
Ford India move follows after Maruti’s rolling out of Vitara Brezza at an attractive introductory price point ranging from Rs 6.99 lakh to Rs 9.68 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), kicking off a price war in the compact SUV segment. Within days of the launch, Brezza garnered over 5,500 bookings.
In a press statement here, Ford India said that to enhance its value for money proposition, a realignment of prices across the entire model range of EcoSport has been necessitated. Applicable with immediate effect, the Ford EcoSport will be available at Rs 6,68,800 (ex-showroom Delhi, petrol) and Rs 7,28,800 (ex-Showroom Delhi, diesel).
The base variant of petrol option of the vehicle is cut by over Rs 53,000 and is now priced at Rs 6.68 lakh, down from Rs 7.22 lakh earlier. The top-end of petrol variant price has also been slashed by Rs 87,000 to Rs 9.45 lakh from earlier Rs 10.32 lakh.
Similarly, the base variant of diesel option will be cheaper by Rs 1.12 lakh at Rs 7.28 lakh as against Rs 8.41 lakh earlier.
The top-end model of the diesel option will see a price cut of Rs 1.12 lakh at Rs 9.75 lakh from Rs 10.87 lakh, said the release further.
Ford India executive director (marketing, sales and service) Anurag Mehrotra said: “Ford EcoSport has always been recognised for its strong value proposition and this realignment further strengthens that proposition. With enhanced value for money proposition, we are extending its appeal across segments, including Rs 6–8 lakh price band which has been growing at 40%
