Given the cyclical nature of domestic truck business, Hinduja flagship Ashok Leyland is working on a strategy to increase the contribution of other businesses to its overall turnover from current 45% to 65% over next three years. The other businesses include bus, spare parts, power solutions, engine and defence vehicles.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, ALL chief financial officer Gopal Mahadevan said: “While domestic truck business continue to be our bread and butter, however, given its volatile nature, the company has drawn a strategy where contribution from other businesses grow proportionately and even touch 65% over the next three to five years.” For example, exports and international operations currently contribute 15% to its total turnover and this would grow to 33% in next three years, the company said.
