Apple iPhones will cost you more in India as the government has announced a 5 percent increase in import taxes in a move to boost domestic manufacturing. From now on the iPhone X will be available in India at a price of Rs 92,430 for the 64GB variant and Rs 1,05,720 for the 256GB variant. However, the iPhone SE will not be seeing a price hike as it is assembled in India. The following is a list of iPhones whose prices have been increased due to hike on import duties.
Centre has looked to boost manufacturing of phones in India, which is the world’s 2nd-largest market by mobile subscriptions, China being the biggest, and among the top three countries by annual smartphone sales, had last week raised the customs duty on phones to 15 percent from 10 percent.
The government of India had announced the hike in taxes on Friday for smartphones which are imported from abroad with the aim of boosting sales of smartphones manufactured under the Make in India initiative.
Apple became the first manufacturer to raise prices across iPhone models, except iPhone SE that the company assembles in India. Apple is currently assembling iPhone SE model at its Bengaluru facility with Wistron Corporation, its Taiwanese manufacturing partner.
