Amazon’s annual sales event Great Indian Festival will be held between Oct 1-5
The forthcoming festival sale clash between the two biggies in the Indian e-commerce industry has begun. Amazon has announced its annual sales event Great Indian Festival from October 1-5, taking on Flipkart’s Big Billion Days sale slated from October 2-6.
Amazon said the festival sale will be its biggest ever in the country and will deal from thousands of sellers and brands. Snapdeal, the third biggest player in the e-commerce space in the country, is also holding its sales event Unbox Diwali Sale between October 2 and 6.
However, the latest guidelines from DIPP, which bar e-commerce players from offering steep discounts, might impact these players.
“This year we recognise and celebrate the big heartedness that underlies festivities and have themed the Great Indian Festival as Tyohar Bade Dilwala. We are delighted to celebrate this with our customers as much as with the entire ecosystem of our sellers, vendors and partners to bring festive cheer all over the country,” Amit Agarwal, VP and country head, Amazon India said.
These marathon 120 hours of the event will mark continuing commitment to work closely with partners and together bring the biggest sale yet for customers, with the best ever shopping experience powered by Prime, he said.
Amazon has upped the ante in the Indian e-commerce industry as it has already announced additional investment of $3 billion in the country taking the cumulative figure to $5 billion.
“Tyohar Bade Dilwala (this year’s fest) celebrates the feeling of happiness and generosity that unites us all and is at the heart of this period of festivities. Festivals encourage magnanimity that manifests into acts of benevolence not just towards immediate family members but also towards extended friends and family as well as society at large,” Manish Tiwary, vice president, category management, Amazon India said.
The Great Indian Festival will have offers on a range of products from smartphones, tablets, laptops, PCs, musical instruments, stationery products, books, baby products, toys, clothing and accessories, shoes to beauty products, pet products, gourmet foods, gardening accessories and more.
Amazon.in’s Prime members will get 30 minutes early access to top deals, the company said.
