The government has set up a selection committee to find a successor to Air India’s chairman and managing director Rohit Nandan, whose extended term ends in August.
The committee is headed by cabinet secretary Pradeep Kumar Sinha and includes civil aviation secretary Rajeev Nayan Choubey and DoPT secretary Sanjay Kothari. “The search and selection committee has started looking at candidates and has also invited applications. We are not closing any options,” said officials.
It is known that more than 30 people, which includes more than half a dozen IAS officers, have already applied for the post. Mahesh Sharma, minister of state (civil aviation and tourism), had earlier told FE that the selection committee, when formed, will also look beyond bureaucrats.
Nandan has already got two extensions — a three-month extension in August 2014 which was then extended till August 2015.
