On Wednesday, Vivekananda Reddy was spotted at Jagan Reddy's home in Hyderabad. On Thursday, he had campaigned for the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) in Pulivendula constituency for the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Former minister Y S Vivekananda Reddy, who is the younger brother of former Andhra Pradesh CM Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, was found dead on Friday at his Kadapa residence in Andhra Pradesh. Family members have alleged that the death of the 68-year-old politician was not natural.
Y. S. Vivekananda Reddy was a member of the 14th Lok Sabha from the Kadapa constituency of Andhra Pradesh.
M V Krishna Reddy, the personal assistant of Vivekananda Reddy, has filed a complaint with Pulivendula police, news agency PTI reported. The report is based on doubts raised over the nature of his death citing the blood clots found in the bedroom as well as the bathroom.
The 68-year old leader has left behind a wife and a daughter.
Former lawmaker Y S Avinash Reddy, who is Vivekananda Reddy’s nephew, has alleged that Y S Vivekananda Reddy’s passing away was not a case of natural death and demanded a thorough investigation.
“There were two injuries on his head, one each on the front and the back. So, a thorough probe is needed to establish the cause of his death. There could possibly be a conspiracy angle and that needs to be probed,” Avinash Reddy was quoted as saying in Pulivendula by PTI.
YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, who was in Hyderabad along with his mother Vijayamma, rushed to Pulivendula upon hearing the news.
A case of unnatural death was filed and his body was taken to the Pulivendula government hospital for postmortem, a police offical told PTI.
Just two days ago, Vivekananda Reddy was spotted at the Lotus Pond residence of Jagan Reddy in Hyderabad. On Thursday, Viveka, as he was popularly known, had campaigned for the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) in Pulivendula constituency ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
It is reported that the 68-year old leader was alone at his Pulivendula home on Thursday night.
“There was no response when I went to his house this morning. I called his wife in Hyderabad over phone and she asked me not to disturb him. Later, the cook and other household staff reached the house but they too did not get any response. I then went in through a side door and found Vivekananda’s body in the bathroom, with blood clots in the bedroom and the bathroom,” his personal assistant Krishna Reddy told PTI.
Vivekananda had won in 1989 and 1994 from his hometown Pulivendula in Andhra’s Kadapa district. He was then elected to the 1999 Lok Sabha from the Kadapa constituency and then again in 2004 to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council in 2009.
He also served as the agriculture minister in N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s cabinet in the then united Andhra Pradesh.
His opinions also diverged with his nephew, Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, who quit the Congress party and founded the YSR Congress, and chose to stay back in Congress.
Vivekananda had lost to his sister-in-law, Vijayamma, in a 2011 by-election. Finally, the family sorted out its differences and Vivekananda Reddy joined the YSRCP.
Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu has now ordered constitution of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the death of YSR leader YS Vivekananda Reddy.
