Eman Ahmed, who is believed to be the world’s heaviest woman and weights about 500 kgs, has landed in Mumbai for surgery to reduce her weight at the Saifee Hospital in the Maharashtra capital an ‘The Indian Express’ report said . Here’s all you need to know about the case:
She was transported from her home in Alexandria to Mumbai in a cargo plane. A special bed was used to make her flight more comfortable. As a precautionary step, the flight was equipped with everything needed in case of an emergency. This is her first trip out of her home since last 25 years.
At the airport in Mumbai, she was lifted by a crane from the plane and placed in a mini truck for the hospital, which has constructed a special room with broad doorway and special intensive care unit to house Eman. The truck was followed by an ambulance and a police escort till the hospital.
Eman will be treated by bariatric surgeon Muffazal Lakdawala in the hospital. Several officials including Egyptian consulate general Ahmed Khalil were present until she was safely admitted in the hospital. According to the BBC, Lakdawala has also performed weight reduction surgeries on Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Venkaiah Naidu.

Eman is unable to move or walk due to paralysis in right leg and right arm. She was reportedly weighed 5 kg at birth and was diagnosed with elephantiasis, a condition in which a limb or other body parts swell due to a parasitic infection.
