Woman with gold bars of Rs 64,38,960 arrested from Mumbai airport

A woman with gold bars of a whopping Rs 64,38,960 was arrested from Mumbai airport on Monday. As per news agency ANI, custom officials have intercepted the information about a woman passenger carrying a huge amount of gold bars. Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officers said that woman passenger, now taken into custody, was traveling from Dubai to New Delhi. AIU in a statement said that the lady identified as Farhat Unnisa, a resident of Hyderabad, came under suspicion after she disembarked from a Jet Airways flight from Dubai. On investigation, the agency recovered gold bars weighing two kilograms and 160 grams.

AIU said that gold bars were concealed inside the inner garments worn by the passenger. The gold bars were promptly seized and the passenger was arrested. The woman has been booked and further investigations are underway.This is the second incident of gold recovery in three days. On Saturday, a total of 1.63 kg gold worth Rs 51.36 lakh was reported recovered from Pune airport from a passenger, who arrived from Abu Dhabi.

“We have arrested the passenger, identified as Mohammad Yusuf, who arrived from Abu Dhabi by a Jet Airways flight today,” said Deputy Commissioner of Customs, K Shubhendra quoted as saying by TOI. Interestingly, the gold was concealed in inner linings, handles and wheels of the bags, also it was made gold was rhodium-plated to avoid detection, said the custom officer.
