The tug of war between RSS and Rahul Gandhi seems to be getting uglier by the day with Rahul’s latest comments about not apologising for his comment and standing up to the ‘divisive’ agenda of RSS coming in.
The comment in question came in 2014 while he was campaigning for the general election and Rahul was reported to have said that people from the RSS has assassinated Gandhiji. The comment did not go well with the Hindu organisation that is also the ideological mentor of the present ruling BJP.
RSS hit back at the Gandhi scion questioning the basis of his comment when he clarified he meant ‘RSS-affiliated’ people. Rahul told Supreme Court that he had never blamed RSS as an institution for killing Mahatama Gandhi but persons associated with it were behind the assassination. The Congress leader is being criticised for taking a U-turn on his stance now. To which, Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said that even if so, it’s a good thing which means wisdom has prevailed on RaGa.
While RSS topman MG Vaidya stressed that Rahul should specify who are these ‘affiliated’ people, what designation do they hold in RSS,Gandhi is being supported by many Congressians including Congress’ General Secretary Digvijay Singh. Singh in his support said, ‘”No U Turn by Rahul Gandhi on RSS. He stands by what he said. Person who killed was from RSS. It is the Ideology of hate and violence which killed Mahatma Gandhi.”
Rahul Gandhi himself said that he will never stop fighting against the hateful and divisive agenda of RSS. ‘I stand by every word I said’ he added. However, the context of Mr. Gandhi’s remark continues to be a battleground still.
