Wife and daughter of DG Corporate Affairs BK Bansal, arrested by CBI in bribery case, commit suicide

Wife and daughter of B K Bansal, Director General Corporate Affairs, an additional secretary-rank officer in Ministry of Corporate Affairs, who was arrested by CBI in a bribery case commited suicide on Tuesday.

Parts of the city were in lockdown following the incident with one suspect in custody and a manhunt underway for an accomplice still at large, the interior ministry said in a statement. Wife and daughter of B K Bansal, Director General Corporate Affairs, an additional secretary-rank officer in Ministry of Corporate Affairs, who was arrested by CBI in a bribery case commited suicide on Tuesday.

Police said that both commited suicide by hanging themselves in Madhu Vihar, Delhi and are verifying two suicide notes found at home.

Bansal was promoted to the post of Director General of Corporate Affairs (DGCA) last year. CBI said that it has recovered Rs 56 lakh after searching eight locations and Rs 16 lakh from Delhi-based middle man Vishwadeep Bansal.

News agency PTI quoting a CBI spokesperson said a case was registered under provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 on the allegations that Bansal had been dealing with matters related to certain violations committed by Mumbai-based Pharmaceutical company Elder Pharmaceuticals. Bansal had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 50 lakh for not recommending investigation by the SFIO on the inspection report and finally the middleman negotiated it to Rs 20 lakh.
