Since the conviction of Dera Sach Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in connection with two separate rape cases, the whereabouts of his adopted daughter Honeypreet remained unknown for quite weeks. She was finally arrested on the road and that too after she actually revealed herself though some interviews she gave to media. Now that Honeypreet has been arrested, one question which kept lurking around is who gave refuge to Ram Rahim’s close confidante during this period? Panchkula police commissioner AS Chawla revealed this today when he said that Honeypreet was given shelter by Sukhdeep, a Dera follower who had hidden her in Bathinda where she owned a house and property. In short, while cops were searching for Honeypreet on Nepal border, Rajasthan, Delhi and even Mumbai, she was actually hiding right nearby! ANI quoted Panchkula Police Commissioner saying, ” Sukhdeep has confirmed that Honeypreet was with her for the last many days in a location in Bathinda district.”
Haryana Police in connection with the deadly violence which followed the sect head’s conviction has arrested Honeypreet on Tuesday. The arrest came hours after Honeypreet appeared on two private news channels interacting with reporters at an undisclosed location, even though the Haryana Police had been looking for her for more than a month. Chawla further said that senior women police officers were deputed for questioning Honeypreet but she hasn’t divulged much. Honeypreet will be produced before a court in Panchkula today where the police will seek her remand, he said.
Asked whether the Haryana Police got the information about the accused’s movements from their Punjab counterparts, Chawla said, “At this moment, I cannot share what all intelligence inputs we had or who all supported us”. Honeypreet had accompanied Ram Rahim from the sect headquarters at Sirsa to special CBI court in Panchkula on August 25. After Dera chief’s conviction, she also accompanied him in a chopper when he was flown to Rohtak jail. Following the judgment, Honeypreet remained untraceable until she was seen on the news channel interacting with reporters.
