Honeypreet was seen accompanying Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in the helicopter, while he was being ferried to Rohtak from Panchkula.
Where is Honeypreet Insan? Days after the violence that killed at least 41 people in Haryana and injured hundreds of others, police are still clueless about the location of Honeypreet, who is considered to be the closest associate of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.
Gurmeet is now serving a 20-year jail sentence for raping two sadhvis. Honeypreet was seen accompanying Gurmeet in the helicopter, while he was being ferried to Rohtak from Panchkula after a special CBI court convicted him in the rape cases on August 25. She had also accompanied Ram Rahim when he was brought to the special court for the pronouncement of the verdict in the 15-year-old rape cases. Conviction of Ram Rahim had triggered widespread violence in Haryana and other locations.
Honeypreet’s sudden disappearance has surprised many. How could she escape when entire Dera was under police radar following the widespread violence? Police have no explanation for this, all they have is some theories.
On Wednesday, Haryana police said they were conducting raids in Mumbai and at areas near Nepal in search of two key followers of jailed Ram Rahim, including Honeypreet and Aditya Insan. On September 1, Haryana Police had issued a lookout notice for the two, fearing they could leave India. Suspecting she may have left for Nepal through the porous India-Nepal border, police had sent a team to Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh bordering Nepal. On Wednesday, Haryana Director General of Police B S Sandhu said, “We are hopeful of nabbing them soon.” Police also said they were in touch with forces in other states and was hoping the two Dera Sacha Sauda followers would be nabbed soon.
Meanwhile, Dera chairperson in Sirsa, Vipassana Insan has said that Honeypreet and Dera spokesperson Aditya Insan should help police. Vipassana has claimed that Dera is not in contact with Honeypreet.
Honeypreet is a said to be adopted daughter of Gurmeet Ram Rahim and she describes herself as “Papa’s angel”. She is accused of plotting a conspiracy to help Ram Rahim escape after his conviction on August 25. Honeypreet and Aditya have been booked for sedition.
Honeypreet, believed to be in her mid-30s, is considered to among Ram Rahim’s possible successors at Dera. However, Vipassana had earlier claimed there was no plan to immediately name the successor to Gurmeet.
Honeypreet acted in the film ‘MSG 2 – The Messenger’ and did a cameo role in ‘MSG – The Warrior Lion Heart’, in which Dera chief played lead roles.
