External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Monday said Rahul Gandhi's recent remarks on the role of women in Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh (RSS) is not worth giving a reply.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Monday said Rahul Gandhi’s recent remarks on the role of women in Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh (RSS) is not worth giving a reply. “Had he (Rahul) asked the same question in a dignified manner, I would have answered, but the kind of language he has used doesn’t sound good from a leader like him,” she said while replying to question raised by one of the listeners at a gathering. “I also think, what you think…. Rahul Ji is current vice president of the Congress, he shouldn’t use such words,” she said while replying to a question raised by girl.
Swaraj also hailed the appointment of women at significant positions by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Swaraj said that BJP has given 4 women chief ministers and 4 women governors to the nation, adding, that it is for the first time in history that two out of four members of Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) are also women. “I was made EAM in May 2014 and now Nirmala Ji is the Defence Minister. 2 out of 4 CCS members are women now,” Swaraj was quoted as saying in Ahmedabad. “Prior to our govt, no woman was ever a member of CCS, comprising Home, External Affairs, Defence and Finance ministry,” Swaraj said.
Gandhi, who is campaigning in poll-bound Gujarat, had recently attacked RSS and BJP alleging both did not give any importance to women. The Congress VP even asked how many women were seen attending the Sangh’s ‘shakhas’. “The BJP’s thinking is that till women are silent they are good, when they start speaking up they try to shut them (women) up,” Gandhi was quoted as saying by PTI.

“Their organisation is the RSS. How many women are there in the RSS… Have you ever seen any woman in shakhas wearing shorts?” Rahul had said, adding, “In the Congress, you will see women at every level in the organisation.” He further said, “Their (BJP-RSS) thinking is, as long as women are silent, all is good. But as soon as she opens her mouth, they run to shut her up,” according to ANI.
