Breaking his silence on the surgical strike by India in LoC, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi has hailed PM Narendra Modi for the first time. Gandhi said that this is the best action taken by PM Modi in the two and half years of the government and that it is the first achievement by the Bharatiya Janta Party. He said that it is the first time that the Modi-led government has done something great. Rahul Gandhi said, “I want to thank him (PM Modi) that for the first time in two and half years he has taken an action that is of the stature of a Prime Minister.” Speaking on the surgical strike conducted by the Indian army, Gandhi said that what Modi has done is right, and added, “My party (Congress) and I stand with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
On September 18, eighteen Indian soldiers were killed in an attack at Uri in Kashmir, by four terrorists who reportedly belonged to a Pakistani terrorist group called Jaish-e-Mohammad. This resulted in a fever pitch among Indians, yet there was ‘strategic restraint’ from the Indian government and Army. Then PM Modi reportedly made a decision to abandon the policy of strategic restraint, which India had been practising in regards to Pakistan. During a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Security on September 19, the Prime Minister authorised Army chief DS Suhag and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to “examine all feasible military option that could deliver an ‘effective response'”.
Later in a Joint media address by Indian Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Defense, it was informed that the Indian Army conducted surgical strikes all across the LoC in PoK, where the Indian Army not only demolished the terror camps but also killed several terrorists.
