Have you ever thought how life would have been if you were named after a famous celebrity? What if this famous celebrity was none other than the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. A man from Aurangabad is living this dream. According to a report by ABP News, a 42-year-old man from Maharashtra’s Aurangabad was named Narendra Chandrakant Modi by his parents. Little did they know that their son would one day go on to share his name with the most important person in the country.
Chandrakant revealed that ever since Narendra Modi became the chief minister of Gujarat, about 20 years ago, people had started recognising him. Chandrakant said that he became more popular after Narendra Modi became the prime minister. People started to call him NaMo in social life, he said.
However, things haven’t been as smooth sailing as it would appear for the PM’s namesake and Chandrakant has had his fair share of trouble as well. He says that whenever he meets someone new, it becomes tough for him to convince people that his name really is Narendra Modi and there are times that he has had to furnish his identity card to convince people that he isn’t lying. However, Chandrakant says they never forget him after that. The trouble does not end with such occasional ordeals in social life, but extends to the social media as well where the Prime Minister enjoys enormous clout. Chandrakant says he once fell victim to this and his Facebook account was once deactivated because of his name.
The troubles for Narendra Chandrakant Modi, who works as an assistant professor in Aurangabad’s Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, do not end there. While his identity card was one of his weapons of choice whenever he was confronted with people who disbelieved him, getting his Aadhaar card made turned out to be a herculean task, he says.
Chandrakant’s mother, however, says that when she named her son 40 years ago, she had no idea that it will become so big. Even today, people are surprised when she introduces her son by his name, she says.
Narrating an incident during her family’s visit to Tirupati, Chandrakant’s mother remembered how while checking the tickets, the bus driver pointed to Chandrakant and asked her who he was. She replied, saying “Narendra Modi is my son” and got a strange look in response. The driver began to laugh thinking it was some kind of a joke. However, when he was told about this coincidence, he couldn’t help but smile.
The troubles of being Narendra Modi aren’t limited to him but extend to his family as well. While his mother gets away with some explaining, his wife and daughter have faced some difficulty. When his wife went to exchange notes after demonetisation, the staff at the bank were left shocked. Meanwhile, other students in Chandrakant’s daughter’s school call her the PM’s daughter. Even her teachers refer to her so.
Despite these problems, the people of Aurangabad are proud that one of their own shares his name with none other than prime minister Narendra Modi.
