Questions about the late Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s death continue to send shockwaves through the country. However, some new details about the much-respected Indian politician’s reported final phone call before his plane crashed in Baramati emerged on Wednesday.

According to an ANI video, the late Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief spoke to his relative and party worker Shreejit Pawar just before the unprecedented aircraft crash tragedy killed him at Baramati airport on January 28, 2026. The Maharashtrian politician’s cousin played the recording at a press conference on Tuesday, revealing what could have potentially been Pawar’s final words.

Ajit Pawar’s final words before plane crash

As per the phone call’s recording purportedly made six minutes before the plane tragedy, Ajit and Shreejit Pawar were discussing issues related to local elections.

Shreejit revealed that he had previously suggested giving representation to the Mali community in the district council election to the deputy CM via a message. Ajit Pawar ended up reverting to him with a direct phone call from the plane.

“He told me that we are taking all communities along with us. I wanted the world to know that till his last breath, he worked with everyone, across caste and religion. ‘We must move forward taking everyone together’ was his last message and his last voice,” Shreejit Pawar said at the press conference.

Pawar’s cousin further divulged that whenever he had a problem, his text messages would always get a response in the form of a personal call from the NCP leader. “Even today, while he was in the aircraft, he called me. Not only me, he would reply to anyone who called or messaged him,” he added.

Ajit Pawar’s last call with cousin Shreejit revealed

While the plane crash that killed Pawar and five others on the spot is still under investigation, an excerpt from the phone conversation between him and his cousin has since been disclosed.

Shreejit also clarified that the call recording may seem incomplete as Ajit Pawar directly started talking about the issue at hand without any greetings after going through his cousin’s message, as per an Indian Express report.

“We do not do things without information. We take all castes and communities along with us,” said Ajit Pawar.

Shreejit replied, “Ajit dada, I only shared what I felt with you.”

The late NCP chief said, “I agree, you are right. But I have already given a district council ticket to the Mali community. That seat falls under OBC reservation. Other parties have given different candidates. We have done our part.”

Shreejit added, “Dada, you take the final decision you think is right.”

While at a press conference in Baramati, Shijit Pawar also weighed in on the NCP chief’s widow, Sunetra Pawar, stepping in to fill the Maharashtra Deputy CM’s post. She took the oath of office at Lok Bhavan in Mumbai.

“I am happy that Sunetra Pawar is sworn in as Deputy CM… Merger discussions were held between Ajit Pawar and Jayant Patil. CM Fadnavis was not involved in the talks. What right did he have to talk about it?” Pawar said, as per ANI.

“At present, our entire focus is on taking care of everyone and moving forward together with those who are grieving. As of now, there is no discussion at all about any political decisions.”
