A television show in the United States have not only made fun of India’s demonetisation step but also of the recent order by the Supreme Court in which it asked the movie goers in the country to stand up during the national anthem in theaters across the country.
In the television show, ‘The Daily show with Trevor Noah’ the anchor not only made fun of India’s National Anthem but also of the US. The show which was on air on December 1, also showed wrong Indian map. During the show, the anchor said, ” Don’t know how far this issue of National Anthem will go. First they asked the theaters to play it before every song. Next they will ask it to be played in every grocery shop. After that they will play the national anthem again and again. In case there is a fire tragedy at home and he calls fire brigade for help, then the person on the other side will say, that they are leaving but before the national anthem has to be played. Apart from this the anchor also commented on demonetisation and long queues due to it.
On November 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a televised speech had announced the demonetisation step and had asked the countrymen to deposit banned notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 in banks by December 30. He had also said that the step was being taken to control the menace of black money in the country.
Few days back, the Supreme Court had also ordered that all movie theaters in the country are required to play National Anthem before any show. Apart from this it was also made mandatory to show tricolour in the screen, with movie goers standing during it. A plea to play National Anthem before any show in movie theaters was submitted by one Shyam Narayan Chowksey. In his plae he had said that the National Anthem should be played before the start of any show in theaters. He had also said that there should be a particular protocol on playing the national anthem during any government programmes and functions.
