On the occasion of the Republic day, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (IDBP) today organised a training session in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ladakh. Known as ‘Himveers’, the special training session was organised for them so as to make them get ready to face any kind of challenge. In the video, one can see this personnel skiing on snow confidently, without caring about the low temperature and were skiing as smoothly as possible. The country celebrated 69th Republic Day today. India’s military might and rich cultural diversity were in full display today as people gathered to witness the event braving the cold weather. This year as many as ten leaders from ASEAN countries were invited as chief guests. The overwhelming presence of leaders from ASEAN countries is seen as a reflection of India’s growing stature as a big power in the region.

Among ASEAN leaders who witnessed the grand ceremony include Myanmar’s State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte, Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Singaporean Premier Lee Hsien Loong, Brunei’s Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and Thai Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha.Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, Prime Minister of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith and Cambodian Premier Hun Sen were also present on the occasion.Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a series of tweets talked about India’s partnership with ASEAN and Thursday’s India-ASEAN Commemorative Summit. “Their presence with us is an unprecedented gesture of goodwill from ASEAN nations.”

Country’s highest peacetime military decoration Ashok Chakra was posthumously awarded to IAF Garud commando Corporal Jyoti Prakash Nirala, who laid down his life after gunning down at least two terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. The award was received by his wife Sushmanand and his mother Malti Devi. The march past by the Army personnel carrying the ASEAN flag also featured at the parade. They also carried the flags of the 10 ASEAN nations in the parade.
