Union Minister VK Singh, Sadananda Gowda’s air travel bills are on hold; here’s why

As per the rules, the ministers are only allowed to travel via Air India for official tours, an exception is available only in the case of unavailability of seats.

Air Travel expenses of union ministers VK Singh and Sadananda Gowda, for 28 trips, have not been cleared by the Government. As per rules, the ministers are only allowed to travel via Air India for official tours, an exception is available only in the case of unavailability of seats. In exceptional cases, the bill has to accompanied by a certificate or the person is able to provide documentary proof for the urgency of meeting. These two minister, it has been learned, didn’t provide necessary documents.

These two minister, it has been learnt, Financial Advisor and Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has withheld clearance of bills as the two ministers opted airlines other than Air India. Out of the 28 officials trips, made between May and August this year, 11 trips were made by V K Singh and 17 by Gowda. As per some Indian Express sources, the total amount involved in the air trips is around Rs 44 lakh. V K Singh is now Minister of State for External Affairs.

The Sunday Express learnt that a letter declining approval for flights other than Air India has been sent to MoSPI by Expenditure Secretary Ashok Lavasa.
