Viral video: Policemen watch as locals tonsure man’s head in Shahjahanpur; get suspended

Three policemen in Shahjahanpur were suspended earlier today after a video went viral on social media.

Three policemen in Shahjahanpur were suspended earlier today after a video went viral on social media, in which some person is shaving the head of a man in the presence of the policemen. The man was with his female friend went the incident took place on March 22.According to SP K V Singh, “The incident took place on March 22 after the residents of South City Colony called police on finding a youth and a girl roaming around together.” The youth was caught by the locals of that area and his hairs were shaved off in the presence of the three constables of Azizganj police. SP K V Singh further said that the incident was catured by one of the policeman.

The video went viral on social media and came to light after it was sent by the constable to his friend on Whatsapp, said the SP. ANI quoted the SP Singh saying, “The three constables — Suhel Ahmed, Layek Ahmed and Sonpal — have been put under suspension. Besides, an inquiry has been ordered against the in-charge of Azizganj police post K K Chaudhary who allegedly tried to hush up the matter.”

The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has given strict orders to all police personnels in the state to ensure that none of the youngsters are troubled unnecessarily. The anti-Romeo squads has been formed in the state to curb the eve-teasing cases that are taking place in UP and not to indulge in moral policing.

The Allahabad High Court on March 31 directed the Uttar Pradesh government to ensure that guidelines are followed by anti-Romeo squads and action is taken as per the law. A Lucknow bench of Justices Amreshwar Pratap Sahi and Sanjay Harkauli gave the order on a PIL filed by a lawyer questioning the drive in UP. It alleged that the police was not following the guidelines during the drive, aimed at checking eveteasing, and was harassing couples.
