Reacting to Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister Anand Sharma said that Congress, within its party and outside, has always been clear on the need to fight terrorism and the terror syndicate that operates from Pakistan.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu had questioned former Home Minister P. Chidambaram’s comments on Jammu & Kashmir and said that the statements and contradictions by Congress smell of political opportunism.

Calling his remarks unwarranted, irresponsible and most unfortunated statements, Anand Sharma said that Congress Party’s opinion on the need to fight terrorism is the reason why they had asked PM Narendra Modi to inform the nation and the opposition leaders about the level of understanding reached between him and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

He also asked about the assurances made by the Pakistan Prime Minister to PM Narendra Modi on a Pakistan supported peace regime. Venkaiah Naidu had earlier blamed Congress party of being insensitive towards the Kashmir issue. He had said that the Congress leaders themselves are not in consonance.

Venkaiah Naidu’s comments came in the light of controversial remarks made by Congress leaders Digvijay Singh and P Chidambaram.

P. Chidambaram had earlier said “I am concerned that situation in Jammu and Kashmir is sliding into total chaos. The PDP-BJP government is squarely responsible for the sharp deterioration in the last six weeks. The statements of the Prime Minister, Home Minister and Defence Minister have exacerbated the crisis. Moderation in words and actions alone can retrieve the situation.”

While Digvijay Singh referred to Kashmir as ‘India-occupied Kashmir’.
