The US Postal Service in order to commemorate the festival of Diwali, will release a Forvever stamp. The stamp features a lit diya oil lamp set on a gold background. The festival will be celebrated on October 30 this year. It occurs on the eve of or on the new moon that occurs between mid-October and mid-November.
On October 5, the first-day-of-issue of dedication ceremony of the stamp will take place at the Consulate General of India, New York. The stamp is an effort by Sally Andersen-Bruce of New Milford, CT, who photographed the diya. Greg Breeding of Charlottesville, VA, for designing the stamp and William J. Gicker of Washington, DC, service as the project’s art director. This Forever stamp will also be tantamount to the current First Class Mail 1-ounce price.
The Postal Service receives over 40,000 suggestions for stamp ideas yearly out of which 25 topic suggestions for commemorative stamps are selected by the Committee for the Postmater General’s approval.
