On first day of winter session of Parliament, Opposition targets govt on demonetisation

Winter session of the Parliament started today and the Congress came out firing against the government on the issue of demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes in an attempt to curb black money.

The Opposition is likely to raise demonetisation issue.After the government announced the ban on high-value notes Rs 500 and Rs 1,000, people across the country were standing in queues in front of banks and ATMs.

Winter session of the Parliament started today and the Congress came out firing against the government on the issue of demonetisation of  Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes in an attempt to curb black money. While the Lok sabha was adjourned for the day, Rajya Sabha functioned as per schedule. Speaking in the Upper House, Congress leader Anand Sharma said that the government has the list of those holding black money in Swiss Banks and the PM must tell who all are there in the list. He added that an atmosphere has been created by the government where questioning it has become the parameter to decide one’s nationalism. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said his government was ready to discuss every issue including demonetisation. He also thanked the Opposition party for their support for GST, which was passed in the last session of the Parliament. Later in the day West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee lead protest march of Opposition leaders to the Parliament and said that her party will move adjournment motion against the government. Apart from demonetisation, members are expected to discuss several other bills in the current session. Highlights of the day:
