In a tragic incident, an Uttar Pradesh farmer was allegedly killed after being run over by his own tractor by the loan recovery agents. The incident reportedly took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur where the farmer was crushed to death after an altercation with the agents who had come to recover unpaid debt. The man was identified as 45-year-old Gyanchandra who had reportedly failed to repay a loan of around Rs 99,000 which he had taken to buy the tractor.
In order to recover the money from Gyanchandra, the loan recovery agents arrived at the farmer’s house and reportedly tried to take away his tractor. The agents snatched the tractor’s keys from Gyanchandra turning a deaf ear to his protests about depositing Rs 35,000 of the loan amount, the farmer’s brother said. The agents drove off with the tractor and came across Gyanchandra who tried intercepting them in order to stop them from taking his vehicle away.
The contractors allegedly made Gyanchandra sit on the tractor, then pushed him off and crushed him underneath the vehicle. The officer, MP Singh, the SP of the area, also said that a case under Indian Penal Code Sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 302 (murder) has been registered in the matter.
The loan recovery agents reportedly escaped from the spot along with the tractor. After his death, high tension was seen in the area as villagers gathered at the murder spot and heavy police had to be deployed in the area. The villagers called off their agitation after senior officials of the district and police administration reached the village and assured action against the culprits.
Meanwhile, the Assistant superintendent of police (ASP), Sitapur, Martand Prakash Singh said an FIR had been lodged against five recovery agents of the finance company. However, no arrests have been made so far in the case.
However, there are other reports suggesting that the deceased took a loan of Rs 5 lakh from a private financer and owed Rs 1, 25,000 to clear his loan debt.
