The newly appointed CM of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath is taking his Sankalpa Patra promise too seriously! Just within days of assuming office, he has not only begun a fierce crackdown on illegal abattoirs but he has also directed police officials to prepare an action plan for closure of slaughterhouses in the state. He has also ordered a blanket ban on smuggling of cows.
Taking illegal slaughterhouses into account was a key poll promise made by Bharatiya Janata Party in its election campaign. In a rally addressed in Maharajganj, party vowed to shut illegal slaughter houses in the state. “Instead of the blood of cattle, there will be streams of milk and ghee flowing throughout the state,” Shah had said. Yogi Adityanath, yesterday, addressed the members of Parliament in Lok Sabha. During the speech, Yogi not only heaped praise on his leader PM Modi but also said “You will see, a lot of things are going to end in Uttar Pradesh.”

Meanwhile, authorities shut two illegal slaughter houses in the city of Allahabad and one in Varanasi. Officials claimed, that the slaughterhouse in Varanasi had been shutdown in 2012, but it continued to operate in a clandestine manner. Officials said that the slaughterhouse was sealed after the caretakers were unable to furnish valid papers for the cattle. The caretakers it is learnt told authorities that the cattle had been brought in temporarily and were to be transferred to other places. They also denied that animals were being slaughtered, it is learnt. However, not convinced, the authorities decided to seal the abattoir.
