Jayalalithaa is no more. Who will be the legal heir? Has she left a will? Why was O Panneerselvam sworn-in in such a haste, these are some of the questions that are unanswered. Sasikala after the funeral straight away went to Veda Nilayam, Jayalalithaa’s residence. According to a TOI report, On Thursday, chief minister O Panneerselvam and other ministers visited Veda Nilayam to meet Sasikala. The CM dropped in at 11am with colleagues Edappadi K Palaniswami, Dindigul C Sreenivasan, P Thangamani and S P Velumani. The visit assumes significance in the wake of Sasikalaa asserting her role in the party and the government. The post of general secretary is vacant post Jayalalithaa’s death. “The senior ministers could have met Sasikalaa, but those who came later sat for a while and left,” a party source told TOI. While Jayalalithaa reinducted Sasikala and allowed her as a member of executive committee, her husband M Natarajan and 12 other relatives were out of the party realm.

According to reports, rumbling have started within AIADMK over the hasty swearing-in of Panneerselvam. According to a TOI report, some senior leaders felt it was a temporary move before Sasikala makes her ambitions clear. There were few legislators who said that they would support Sasikala as the party general secretary, but the same legislators made a U-Turn on Wednesday. They said, “we believe the swearing-in was done in a hurry to check any rebellion against Sasikala taking control suddenly,” a senior AIADMK leader told TOI.

The AIADMK chief suffered the cardiac arrest hours after her party told media that she has fully recovered and will be returning home soon. Born in 1948, Jayalalithaa started her career as an actress in South Indian films. In 1982, she joined the AIADMK, which was founded by her mentor MG Ramachandran. She first became the chief minister of Tamil Nadu in 1991. She has ruled the state for over 15 years.
