‘TV actor’ caught with over Rs 43 lakh in new currency notes in Madhya Pradesh

Police has recovered a sum of Rs 43,60,000 in new notes from an Innova car in Madhya Pradesh's Hoshangabad district this evening. Three men in the car, after failing to give any satisfactory statement, have been taken into custody for further interrogation.

Police has recovered a sum of Rs 43,60,000 in new notes from an Innova car in Madhya Pradesh’s Hoshangabad district this evening. Three men in the car, after failing to give any satisfactory statement, have been taken into custody for further interrogation. Interestingly, the car had a number plate with ‘President- Anti Corruption Society’ written on it.

According to a report published by Amar Ujala, Rahul Chelani, a resident of Itarsi district in Madhya Pradesh, along with his brother Kapil and driver Brijesh Chaure, were caught at a police check-point near Hoshangabad-Bhopal vicinity.

After an extended interrogation, it was revealed by one of the accused Rahul, that he is a TV actor and lives in Mumbai. He claimed that the money recovered by the police belongs to him. As of now the police has forwarded the entire issue to the Income Tax department for further scrutiny.
Commenting on the issue, SP A.P Singh informed, “The recovered money has been seized by the police and the entire issue will be directed to the Income Tax Department, who will take further call on this.”

In a similar incident, over Rs 1.75 crore new currency notes were seized and eight people were arrested in raids at different places by the police and the CBI in Goa lately. The Goa police arrested two people and seized Rs.1.5 crores in new currency notes during raids in Ponda and Porvorim. The police is investigating the case.
