In a shocking incident reported from West Bengal, a Trinamool Congress leader was captured on tape, assaulting a female student on the premises of a college. The incident reportedly took place inside Hooghly’s Rishra Bidhan College and the victim, is believed to be a leader of Trinamool Chhatra Parishad, the student wing of Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress. The video of the incident was shared on social media platforms and has gone viral since then.
The incident reportedly took place in the Common Hall area of the college in the presence of several other students. The incident took place on December 4, 2017, but the CCTV footage has emerged now. The accused has been identified as Shahid Hassan Khan, general secretary of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad. He is the son of TMC leader of Hooghly, Jahid Hassan Khan.
After the incident was reported by media, Shahid has been removed from his post. In the CCTV footage, Shahid can be seen slapping the victim, a final year student. Talking about the incident, the victim was quoted as saying by India TV, “I was harassed physically. He had asked me to hand him over my phone… he had even called my mother and threatened to kill me.”
However, Shahid has denied all the allegations by saying that the girl was doing so to defame him. “Why should I beat her? It is political conspiracy against me… she was a member of my group. You can also talk to her mother. We had a cordial relation. I had made her entry possible into the union,” he said.
