Transgender faces humiliation in Kolkata bank, asks for written apology

A transgender was humiliated by a bank staff in Kolkata when she was trying to enter the premises. Ranjita Sinha, who holds an account in the State Bank of India (SBI) at the Gokhale Road of the West Bengal capital, alleged she was abused by a staff member when she wanted to meet the manager of the bank.

Speaking to ANI, the member of Association of Transgender/ Hijras in Bengal said that while she wanted to meet the manager with some query, the security guard at the bank did not let her through and misbehaved and put a collapsible gate. Ranjita also alleged that the bank staff also abused her friends who belong to the same community.

Next day, she met the branch manager the next day and informed the situation to him. Ranjita further said while the bank manager supported her but could not do aanythingsince the staffs were not listening to him.

Ranjita has lodged a complaint at a city police station and asked for a written apology from the bank officials. She has also decided to move the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) if no written apologyis given to her till today.
