Nagaland Chief Minister T R Zeliang has voiced hope of building “a much better working relationship” with the new BJP government under the leadership of Sarbananda Sonowal in Assam.

In a congratulatory note to Sonowal, the Nagaland CM said it was a landmark victory for BJP as it is going to form government for the first time in Assam after dislodging Congress.

“I look forward to a much better working relationship with the new BJP Government in Assam under your leadership,” the Nagaland CM wrote in the letter to Sonowal last night, describing Assam as “our immediate neighbour and elder brother, with whom we have many common issues and interests.”

Zeliang, who heads Nagaland Peoples Front (NFP) – an ally of NDA, has also written to the Prime Minister on BJP’s spectacular victory in Assam and said Modi’s relentless efforts have paid off.

The people of the Northeast have been impressed by his dynamic leadership and the initiatives Modi has introduced, Zeliang said.

“Our alliance partner has won impressively in our neighbouring state and we now hope that better relations between the neighbours will prevail…and will continue to be good neighbours for generations to come,” the Chief Minister said.
