The new working president of Bihar Congress, Kaukab Quadri, feels that no one could have asked him for a more challenging situation than his current job. Quadri entered politics as an NSUI worker in 1982. He claims that, ever since then, he has been out and out a Congressman. Speaking on speculation that there may be a split in the party after Ashok Choudhary’s removal, Quadri said he does not have an ego problem and will try to stop them. “I can touch the feet of our MLAs to stop them from leaving the Congress,” he told The Indian Express.
Asked about 26 of 27 MLAs skipping the function when he took the charge, Quadri said that there was very little time between the announcement and his assuming the charge so they couldn’t attend. “Though only Bikram (Patna) MLA Siddharth could come to the party office when I assumed charge, I talked to several other MLAs, ” he said as per IE.
The Congress working president also slammed the former Bihar Congress chief Ashok Choudhary saying he could not handle his success at such a young age. “We had been in power hardly for a few months, when education minister and PCC president Choudhary accompanied CM Nitish Kumar to Varanasi. When the state Congress chief starts attending personal engagements of the Bihar CM, it was strong enough a signal, ” Quadri said. The senior leaders had earlier also alleged that Choudhary was drifting towards the JD(U), the report said.
Lashing out at the JD(U), Quadri accused the party is trying to split the Congress. “All the talk of 14 MLAs having signed a paper to merge with the JD(U) has come from reliable sources, ” he said. We will try to ensure that the JD(U) and Choudhary do not succeed in their design, he added.
