At least 23 people got injured after a tent collapsed at an event in Indore which was attended by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan on Monday. As per the reports by agency, the tent collapsed due to high winds during a thunderstorm and all the injured people were shifted to the hospital. As per the reports by News18, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu were also present at the event, however they managed to escape the situation unharmed. Madhya Pradesh CM assured that all possible assistance will be provided to the injured who are being treated at local hospitals.
The pandal was erected for ‘Pranam Indore’ programme which was organised this evening to thank people in view of Indore being declared as the cleanest city in the country under the recent ‘Swachh survekshan 2017’. As per the reports, Chouhan was here to address a public gathering, after which the area was hit by a strong thunderstorm because of which the tent collapsed, it triggered panic among hundreds of people and stampede-like situation was created. While power supply got snapped, scared people started running helter-skelter. The added rains caused water-logging at the venue.
The chief minister personally monitored the rescue work at the spot and directed officials to rush the injured persons to hospital. Chouhan took to Twitter and said, “All the dignitaries including Naidu and Mahajan are safe.”
