Tensions rise in J&K over Burhan Wani’s killing; US calls it India’s “internal matter”

Amidst rising tensions in Jammu and Kashmir over the killing of Hizbul Mujahedeen terrorist Burhan Wani, US has called the issue an "internal matter" of India.

Amidst rising tensions in Jammu and Kashmir over the killing of Hizbul Mujahedeen terrorist Burhan Wani, US has called the issue an “internal matter” of India. US State Department spokesperson John Kirby said, “Kashmir is an internal matter of India”, asking all stakeholders to make efforts to find peaceful resolution of tensions in the Valley.

As many as 23 people have lost their lives during the clashes.

PM Narendra Modi is all set to chair a high-level meet today to review the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. PM Modi is likely to be given a detailed presentation on the prevailing situation in Kashmir Valley.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Rajnath Singh has postponed his visit to US, though the chief reason being cited for the same is preparations for the upcoming Monsoon session of Parliament.

Earlier, the Home Minister reached out to opposition leaders including Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Parliamentary leaders of all parties, and discussed the prevailing situation there.

During the telephonic conversation with Gandhi and National Conference leader Omar, the Home Minister discussed with them efforts to bring back peace and normalcy in Kashmir Valley.
