He climbed onto the temple perch to perform a ritual, but that tradition went on to claim his life. In a shocking incident, a man from Tamil Nadu's Musiri town lost his life while attempting to perform a prayer at a temple in Trichy. As per The Hindu, 38-year-old T Arumugam slipped and fell from the Perumal temple while doing his third round to circle the temple on the Thalamalai Hills. In a video that has gone viral; Arumugam, an auto driver, was seen climbing over the parapet of the ancient temple in Trichy district. He was on his last lap to circle the temple when he slipped. As per Hindu, he hung onto the cliff for sometime before plunging down. This dangerous act has been banned at this temple but the devotee ignored it. Adding to the woes of Arumugam's family was the delay in the launch of search operation due to jurisdiction issue as the police in Tiruchi district said the spot where Arumugam fell came under the Erumapatty police station in Namakkal district. Hundreds of devotees visit the temple, situated at an altitude of 2400 feet, during the current Tamil month of Purataasi. \u201cIt is a practice for many to go around the temple by treading the treacherous rocks, unmindful of the danger and official advice. Building a wall will be the only way to prevent them from doing so", an official of the Perumal temple told Hindu.
