Voting for 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations across Telangana concluded on Wednesday with an overall turnout of 73.01%, according to the State Election Commission. The polling exercise, seen as a significant political test for major parties in the state, passed off largely peacefully despite minor incidents in some districts.
When and Where to check results
Counting of votes is scheduled for February 13, with authorities confirming that the process will begin at 8 am. Ward-wise results will be published on the official website of the Telangana State Election Commission.
Polling commenced on Wednesday morning (Feb 11) and witnessed a steady rise in voter participation through the day. Turnout stood at 11.6% till 9 am, increasing to 28.48% by 11 am. By 1 pm, the figure had reached 48.54%, and by 3 pm it climbed to 62.09%. At the close of voting, the final turnout was recorded at 73.01%.
Among municipalities, Choutuppal in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district registered the highest turnout at 91.91%, while Nandikonda in Nalgonda district recorded the lowest at 59.68%. In the municipal corporation category, Nalgonda saw 77.36% polling, whereas Nizamabad recorded 59.12%.
The elections were conducted on a party basis across all municipalities and corporations. Earlier, 29,656 Booth Level Officers were deployed statewide for the electoral roll revision process to ensure updated voter lists.
Security Arrangements and Political Reactions
Director General of Police B Shivadhar Reddy monitored the polling process and said adequate security arrangements were made across sensitive locations.
Minor skirmishes were reported in Karimnagar, Sangareddy and a few other areas. In Karimnagar, police resorted to a mild lathi charge after BJP workers allegedly blocked a road near the bus stand, claiming impersonation at a polling booth. Some BJP workers reportedly sustained minor injuries.
In Sangareddy, Congress leader and former MLA T Jayaprakash Reddy had an argument with police, alleging bogus voting. Meanwhile, in Nizamabad, police registered an FIR against BJP MP Arvind Dharmapuri under provisions of the BNS and the Telangana Municipalities Act for allegedly entering a polling booth, arguing with officials and making remarks against police personnel.
Several senior leaders cast their votes during the day. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy voted in Kodangal in Vikarabad district, while Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar cast his ballot in Karimnagar.
State Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud expressed confidence that his party would emerge victorious. BJP leader and Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy said his party would secure favourable results despite accusations against the ruling party.
The results, due on Friday, are expected to offer a clear indication of the political mood in Telangana and serve as a key test for the Congress, BJP and BRS ahead of future electoral battles.
