Telangana Municipal Election Results 2026 Live Updates: Congress registered a clear lead in Telangana Municipal Polls-2026. The main opposition, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), fared well and it was in the second position.
Out of the 2,958 Wards whose results were declared, Congress candidates won in 1,526 Wards, and BRS candidates claimed victory in 772, according to Telangana State Election Commission data till 8.40 p.m.
Though the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) expected to make a dent, it won in 326 Wards. All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul (AIMIM) bagged 66 Wards and CPI (M) 13. People began to know the names of the new Councillors elected in the polls from around 10.00 a.m. on Friday (February 11, 2026), around two hours after the counting process began at 8.00 a.m. Officials began to issue certificates to the winning candidates.
The elected Councillors and Corporators are expected to be sworn in at 11.30 a.m. on February 16. Following this, a special meeting will be held to elect the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor of the Corporations and the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of Municipalities.
The counting process began with postal ballots, which were followed by regular ballots. In each round, 1,000 ballots will be randomly taken and sent to each counting table.
While 52,17,413 were eligible to vote, 38,09,406 people exercised their franchise in the elections on Wednesday (February 11, 2026), recording 73.01% voter turnout. The polls were held in 2,569 Wards in 116 Municipalities and 412 Wards in seven Municipal Corporations.
Vote counting for 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations of Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Ramagundam, Mahbubnagar, Nalgonda, Mancherial, and Kothagudem in Telangana is currently underway. Voting concluded on Wednesday, with the State Election Commission reporting a voter turnout of 73.01%.
Earlier, as part of the electoral roll revision exercise, authorities had deployed 29,656 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) across the state. Over 52 lakh voters participated in the electoral process to decide fate of 13,000 candidates in the fray.
The outcome serves as a test for Congress, BJP and BRS. State Congress President B Mahesh Kumar Goud expressed confidence that his party would win the polls. Meanfwhile, BJP leader and Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy asserted that the party would secure results.

The vote counting process began at 8 am today, February 13. Ward-wise results will be published on the official website of the Telangana State Election Commission at tsec.gov.in.
How were the elections conducted?
During polling, minor skirmishes took place in Karimnagar, Sangareddy and other places, The Indian Express reported. Police used mild lathi charge in Karimnagar after BJP workers blocked a road near the bus stand, alleging impersonation at a polling station. A few BJP workers sustained minor injuries.
In Sangareddy, Congress leader and former MLA T Jayaprakash Reddy argued with police, alleging bogus voting.
In Nizamabad, police registered an FIR against BJP MP Arvind Dharmapuri under sections of the BNS and the Telangana Municipalities Act for allegedly entering a polling booth, arguing with staff and police, and making comments against police.

The Congress party won the Madhira municipality in Khammam district with a thumping majority, securing 18 of the total 22 wards, in the civic body. The BRS secured one ward while three wards went to independent candidates, according to the final tally.
The ruling party clinched the key civic body in Madhira Assembly constituency, represented by Deputy Chief Minister M. Bhatti Vikramarka.
