Former Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav has slammed Bharatiya Janata Party, Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh and JDU chief Nitish Kumar after verdict against his RJD supremo Lalu Yadav in fodder scam. Tejashwi, who is set to lead party in absence of his father, spoke to media and said that RJD will go to higher court against the decision. Yadav further accused BJP, RSS and Nitish Kumar on framing Lalu in the case. “People know how BJP, RSS and more importantly Nitish Kumar have conspired against Lalu ji. We will approach higher courts against all these verdicts,” Yadav said soon after the verdict. He further said that RJD leaders will abide by whatever is the court’s ruling. “But the CBI court order is not going to be final. We will appeal in the high court and, if need be, in the Supreme Court,” Yadav said.
“It is a common perception that Lalu Prasad, whom the public views as its hero, has been framed in the cases at the instance of Nitish Kumar and the BJP-RSS brigade,” Yadav told reporters outside Raj Bhavan. He added that Prasad’s detractors have always been scared of his immense popularity. In startling claims, Yadav further said the BJP-led NDA was planning to hold elections in Bihar by December this year and this was evident with senior BJP leaders as well as RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat undertaking tours of the state.
Tejaswi said that NDA wants to keep Prasad embroiled in legal difficulties so that it is smooth sailing for the alliance, adding, that RJD would give a fitting reply to the NDA whenever elections are held. Tejashwi Yadav further said that other senior RJD leaders called on Governor Satya Pal Malik and submitted a memorandum to him alleging that the law and order situation in the state was deteriorating and the weaker sections of the society, especially the Dalits, were being oppressed.
Slamming Nitish Kumar, Yadav also took up the issue of the Srijan scam, in which government funds worth about Rs 1,000 crore were allegedly diverted to the accounts of a non-government organisation. “We hope that the CBI would investigate the multi-crore Srijan scam seriously and examine the role of the chief minister and his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi in the corruption scandal.”
Earlier in the day, a special CBI court convicted Lalu in the third fodder scam case pertaining to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 37.62 crore from the Chaibasa treasury in the 1990s. Along with Lalu, the CBI judge SS Prasad also found another former chief minister Jagannath Mishra and others guilty in the case. Former Bihar minister Vidyasagar Nishad, ex-Bihar Assembly PAC chief Jagdish Sharma, former MLAs Dhruv Bhagat and R K Rana and three ex-IAS officers were also among the 50 persons who were convicted. The RJD supremo is currently lodged in the Birsa Munda Jail here in connection with another fodder scam case.
