Tamil Nadu political crisis: In another twist in Tamil Nadu’s political drama, AIADMK General secretary VK Sasikala and her nephew TTV Dinakaran who was yesterday appointed as the deputy chief secretary have been sacked by Presidium Chairman E Madhusudanan. Surprisingly, the announcement came just one day after E Palaniswamy was appointed as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Sasikala was elevated to the post of AIADMK General Secretary after the unfortunate demise of Jayalalithaa but the O Panneerselvam camp called it against the Election Commission rules.
Challenging the appointment, Panneerselvam camp filed a petition and on Thursday, EC agreed to hear their view a few hours before Palaniswamy’s oath taking ceremony at Raj Bhavan. After that, AIADMK Rajya Sabha MP V Maitreyan reached the EC office with a 10-member delegation. The hearing was supposed to determine the fate of VK Sasikala. According to the latest reports, the suspension has come on the grounds of indiscipline and their appointment now stands null and void.

Jayalalithaa had expelled all the relatives of Sasikala from the party in 2011 after suspecting a conspiracy but before Sasikala had left for jail on Wednesday, she had revoked the suspension of her nephews TTV Dinakaran and S Venkatesh and the former was even appointed as the deputy General Secretary of the party. She also announced that he will enjoy the powers of General Secretary while she is away. Yesterday, he also visited Jaya memorial with E Palaniswamy to pay tribute to the former Chief Minister after the oath taking ceremony.
Madhusudanan also suspended S Venkatesh from the party on Friday. He is an eminent figure in AIADMK and chairs all the party meetings. Madusudanan was believed to be a trusted aide of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and even O Panneerslevam once said that he even Amma wanted Madhusudanan to be the party general secretary.
