Tamil Nadu political crisis live update: Tamil Nadu governor C Vidyasagar Rao settled the dust about the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu when he met E Palaniswami at Raj Bhavan on Thursday morning and invited him to form the government.

Finally, Governor C Vidyasagar Rao has put an end to the suspense over the new Chief Minster of Tamil Nadu by inviting Edappadi K Palaniswami to form the government. Here are the live updates from the ongoing political crisis in the state.

6:47 am: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisami will seek a vote of confidence on February 18.

6:45 am: Speaker P Dhanapal has convened the session of the Tamil Nadu assembly at 11 am on Saturday for the trust vote, Assembly Secretary A M P Jamaludeen said in a statement.

6:42 am: “On that day, the vote of confidence will be taken up,” A M P Jamaludeen said.

08: 50 PM: PM Narendra Modi congratulates Edappadi K Palaniswami on taking over as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

08: 43 PM: Speaking to the media lately, former CM O Panneerselvam said, “We will take out rallies and campaigns in various constituencies to make people aware of the situation.” We have taken a ‘shapath’ at Amma’s memorial to make people aware of the situation in the party and ways to bring the party out of it, he added further.

08: 06 PM: Former Tamil Nadu CM O Panneerselvam has recently paid tribute at J. Jayalalithaa’s memorial at Marina Beach.

07: 40 PM: Tamil Nadu Assembly to convene on 18th February 2017 and the v0te of confidence will also be taken on the same day, ANI quoted AIADMK.

07: 30 PM: Soon after the new government was formed in Tamil Nadu, DMK leader MK Stalin said congratulated the new government and said, “I hope it will not function under control of VK Sasikala, who is in Bengaluru jail.” CM should remember his oaths, he added further.

07: 25 PM: AIADMK MLAs head back to Kuvathur’s Golden Bay resort after Tamil Nadu cabinet and Chief Minster E. Palanisamy’s oath ceremony, reports ANI.

4:45 PM: 9 MLAs being sworn in after Palaniswamy. All the 9 members are taking the oath together. When Jayalalithaa was the Chief Minister all the members took the oath together.

4:40 PM: Palaniswamy takes the oath in Tamil. He is now the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

4:37 PM: The oath taking ceremony has started with the National Anthem.

4:35 PM: According to the latest reports, Palaniswamy has the support of 127 MLAs while the majority needed to form the government is 118. So, according to the experts, if he loses 9 or 10 MLAs, there is a possibility of newly formed government getting collapsed.

3:45 PM: Most cabinet members under O Panneerselvam to be retained by Palanisamy.

Tamil Nadu governor C Vidyasagar Rao settled the dust about the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu when he met E Palaniswamy at Raj Bhavan on Thursday morning and invited him to form the government. The governor gave AIADMK leader 15 days to prove majority ending the debate over VK Sasikala and O Panneerselvam. The decision was welcomed by Sasikala supporters who raised slogans against O Panneerselvam outside Golden Bay Resorts in Kovathur. Later in the day, Palaniswamy met the governor again and submitted the list of 31-members who will form his cabinet. He has retained most members that were a part of Panneerselvam’s cabinet but has left out Sasikala’s nephew Dinakaran from the list. E Palaniswamy took the oath in the presence of his party members and is now the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
