Tamil Nadu government forms panel to probe Jayalalithaa’s death

The Tamil Nadu government on Monday constituted an inquiry commission headed by a retired High Court judge to probe the death of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, nearly 10 months after the demise of the AIADMK supremo.

The Tamil Nadu government on Monday constituted an inquiry commission headed by a retired High Court judge to probe the death of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, nearly 10 months after the demise of the AIADMK supremo. The circumstances that led to the death of Jayalalithaa had raised many eyebrows, with even the doctors who treated her forced to hold press briefing to clear the air, in the past. Things have come to a bind with Tamil Nadu forest minister C Sreenivasan seeking people’s apology for lying about the health condition of Jayalalithaa when she was admitted in Apollo Hospital.

In an official release on Monday, the TN government said: “To conduct inquiry and submit a report on the death of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, an inquiry commission headed by retired High Court judge, Justice Arumugasamy, has been constituted.” Chief minister K Palaniswami had on August 17 announced that a commission of inquiry would go into the death of Jayalalithaa.The 68-year-old Jayalalithaa died following a cardiac arrest on December 5 after being in hospital for 75 days.
