The Election Commission has issued a notice to V K Sasikala on a petition that has been filed by Dr V Maitreyan, challenging her nomination as general secretary of AIADMK. Sasikala is currently serving her term in jail after being proved guilty in the DA case in which late Jayalalithaa was a co-accused. Former Tamil Nadu O Panneerselvam protested over the post of AIADMK’s General Secretary. Panneerselvam earlier said that Sasikala is only an interim general secretary and the Election Commission should hold a poll for the post.

Assets under the purview include he farm houses and bungalows in Chennai, agricultural land in Tamil Nadu, a farm house in Hyderabad, valuable jewellery, a tea estate in the Nilgiris, industrial sheds, cash deposits and investments in banks and a set of luxury cars. Her valuables were kept in a vault in Chennai RBI. In September 2014, the Supreme Court of India held all parties guilty. On Thursday, Sasikala loyalist E Palaniswami took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in the presence of TN governor C Vidyasagar Rao. His cabinet includes 31 ministers out of which 30 ministers were earlier there in O Panneerselvam’s cabinet. 9 top ministers of Palaniswami’s cabinet took oath along with him in the ceremony. Nephew of VK Sasikala has been included in the AIADMK party but he holds no position in the Tamil Nadu Government. TN governor Rao has given Palaniswami a period of 15 days to prove his majority. After the oath taking ceremony, Palaniswami along with his cabinet ministers visit the Jayalalithaa memorial to pay their tribute to the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
